Hello world!

Welcome to my blog!

For those of you that know me, you are probably thinking, “what is she up to now?”  And I have an answer for that! 🙂

My husband and I just became empty nesters, and most days it feels awesome to have gotten three kids through school and off to college, but some days I feel lost, like I have totally lost my purpose.  Since none of them are ready to make us Grandparents yet,  we have to find other ways to keep busy! While I don’t miss the constant bickering and mess, I do miss having them around!  They have all turned in to some pretty amazing young adults, which makes me proud, but they don’t visit enough.  Some days the house is too quiet, well except for the dogs running after me with squeaky toys begging me to play.

This new season of life has caused me to do some serious soul searching.  Add to that my job as a nurse, which is a daily reminder that life is short and nobody gets out of this world alive, and I have been pondering my mortality and how I want to live out the rest of my life.

I keep juggling different ideas in the back of my mind, such as different directions I could take my nursing career, or different businesses that might make me feel fulfilled. And, while I enjoy all of the things I am doing, I still don’t feel like I’ve hit my stride, or found my purpose, and I feel like time is running out.

As I continuously ponder what I want from life, I continue to come back to a few constants.  None of us get out of this life alive, so I want to live my life fully, I want to love and be loved, I want to try new things, check out new places and not regret another moment, and I want to share all of these things with anyone who wants to share the with me! This is how “New Adventures Ahead” was born.

My husband and I like to travel near and far, by land and sea, and with our travels we have gleaned some good information worth sharing.  If you have a question about Maui, we likely have an answer, as it is our favorite place to visit.  If you like to boat in the San Juan Islands, so do we and we can give lots of good tips.  Skiing/Snowboarding?  We loved Whistler, B.C. so much we went multiple time last year, and we can’t wait to get back to Bend, Oregon this winter, as we loved our spring visit.  Leavenworth, WA?  Its the best place for “girlfriend”getaways!  I am looking forward to writing about all of these places, and can’t wait to start checking new places off the “bucket list”.

I picked travel & lifestyle as my blog niche, because we love travel, we love trying new restaurants, we love exploring waterfalls and scenic places, the travel piece, but we also just took up bike riding, have gotten back in to winter sports, and are working to be healthier versions of ourselves, the lifestyle piece.

If you have followed along this far, thank you!  Now that I have explained the “why”, I get to start working on the fun part, the writing/sharing!
